Answers to common questions
Therapy is about understanding yourself and learning new ways to help yourself feel better, it’s not not waiting till everything falls apart. You don’t need to be at breaking point. Many people come because they simply don’t feel like themselves any more. Life feels different, maybe you’re overthinking more than usual, noticing you're reacting differently, feeling stuck or just not feeling quite like yourself.
It might be one of these. It might also be a combination of things. Therapy isn’t about deciding whether your feelings are “big enough” or whether you should just get on with it. Whatever is contributing, your experience is real and it matters. Together we’ll take time to talk through what you’re experiencing, explore what’s affecting you most and then start to understand yourself more so that we can work out what is the best way forward for you.
Being really honest with yourself can feel scary because it's natural to worry about what it might mean. The truth is, being honest allows you some clarity and takes away any confusion. It will not turn you into someone you are not. It can help you be a better version of yourself. It doesn’t mean you have to make huge life decisions overnight. It does help you to understand yourself better, so then you can feel confident about any decisions you do make.
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to arrive with all the answers. Often people just know they don’t feel quite right any more. Together we’ll gently explore what’s going on, make sense of what you’re experiencing and explore what’s really happening for you, beneath the uncertainty.

Everyone is different. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific challenge, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper personal growth. We’ll regularly review how you’re feeling, and you’ll never be tied into a set number of sessions. It really depends on what you want to work on. I often suggest that we work together weekly initially, maybe for a period of 4-6 weeks. This gives the consistency that is really beneficial when looking to change patterns of behaviour or break unhelpful habits. We’ll regularly review how you’re feeling around 4 weeks and decide next steps together. You’re not tied into a set number of sessions unless you choose to block book.Therapy with me is always open ended so you may choose to invest in yourself for the long term or come back into therapy as and when for specific things thta you'd like to work on.If you're unsure what would be best for you we can discuss in more details during our free introductory first call.
Most people begin with weekly sessions, as this helps build momentum and creates lasting change. As things improve, many move to fortnightly, monthly and even 3 monthly sessions to maintain their progress. We can tailor this to suit your needs.
Whilst you’re welcome to bring someone with you to the appointment if it helps you feel more comfortable arriving I usually work one-to-one during the therapy session itself, as this creates the safest space for open and honest conversations. If involving someone else would be beneficial, we can always discuss that together.
